Hello there. This is my first post. I was first diagnosed with PC about 10 years ago. I’ve been in an AS program since with biopsies done every few years. Initially on my first round of biopsies, 12 cores were removed in order to find the cancer using the TRUS approach. They found PIN cells and nothing more. About six months later I had another round of biopsies and they targeted a specific area and found the cancer. Over the course of a decade, I participated in medical trials and observations. With the advent of MRIs, they greatly reduced the number of cores removed. Fortunately for me, my cancer is slow growing- which suits me just fine. Last week, after a two-year hiatus, I went in for my sixth round of biopsies. What was different was they used a much smaller TRUS probe but took samples through the perineum while I was in stirrups. While the risk of infection is much lower, I never felt so much pain in my life. The specialist told me it would be more unpleasant but much safer. Anyone else go through this relatively new biopsy method? Having gone through five biopsy rounds in the past, the sixth one caught me completely by surprise.
