Need some hope

My husband, 60, just got an MRI report that stated aggressive metastatic prostate carcinoma >15 that spread to bladder and anus walls. We have an appointment with the urologist in 3 days. This feels so hopeless. Symptoms have been difficulty urinating mostly. PSA ranging 5-7 over the past month. IS THERE HOPE?

  1. Hi . I know you have seen a post from our contributor and you can find his bio with a link to his articles here: https://prostatecancer.net/community-advocates/tony-collier. In addition, our contributor Dan Franke was diagnosed with stage 4 PCa in 2008 and is still going strong (see: https://prostatecancer.net/community-advocates/dan-franke). Treatments have advanced dramatically in recent years, particularly in targeting metastatic cancer. Hope is real. Know that this community is here for both of you and please feel free to ask questions and keep us posted on how things are going. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. hang in there. I was diagnosed stage 4 in May 2017. Gleason 5+4, PSA 129 with mets throughout my skeleton from pelvis to skull but I’m still here and doing okay. I was also 60. Hope things go okay for you

      1. I was diagnosed with a Gleason 9 in 2013 and following surgery, then radiation combibhormone therapy I am still here - Prostate Cancer (PCa ) is a very individual disease and every patient is somewhat unique. While not easy to do so --- my advice is look for ways to stay positive and take all of this one day at a time.

It is very easy to plunge into negative thinking at this point in your diagnosis and think of only negative outcomes . With a bit of effort you can also focus on the many positive things in your lives and slowly crowd out the negative stories you may be tempted to think about. Hang in there...
