Pain in right side rear of chest

Hello all,
I had HD radiation treatment for prostate cancer in Sept. 2021. Just two treatments. Everythiing has been good, my numbers went from 5.74 pre treatment down to a low (.35) on my most recent check. I had 4 of 12 cores positive, with a Gleason score of 3+4 =7. Intermediate risk. I am 62 years young. I was prescribed Lipitor for my poor cholesterol in this past December. Within a week or two I started having pain in my right side in my back. Deep inside - like organ pain. They tested my blood and one my liver enzymes were was not quite double what it should have been (83) from a high allowable of 45. So I went off the Lipitor and retested 2-3 weeks later. My one enzyme down to just outside the high side of normal and the other was in range. My back pain has not gone away though and so my primary care doc has ordered a abdominal CT scan. I think he suspects the prostate cancer has spread to my liver, which I am reading is a real possibility. Just wanted to run this by some of you guys to see what your thoughts are. Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

  1. M1redskin Hi - I went through 8 weeks of radiation for PCa some 5 years after surgery. Two years later while on vacation
I developed significant pain in my right side and went to the emergency room. I was told I most likely had pancreatic
cancer (based on my scans) and was told to get back home for immediate treatment. It turned out after an endoscopic biopsy
when i got back to CT that I actually was diagnosed

    1. Thanks Dennis, we have had some conversations during my initial diagnosis about what treatment to seek. I am hoping I still made a good one with the HD radiation. My pain is a dull pain, that mostly bothers me when I 1st get out of bed, maybe 5-6 on a 10 scale. It fades away in a few minutes and is almost unnoticeable during the day unless I do some physical activity, then it seems to get aggravated. It seems to be marginally better than when this 1st started about 2 months ago but not significantly. I've been off the Lipitor for about 3 weeks now. We will see - hopefully this is unrelated to the prostate cancer, but to your point, could be something else just as bad. Thanks though - I appreciate your thoughts.

      1. Do you have pancreatic cancer then or? It seems your post was cut off short.

        1. No .. It turned out to be Stage II non-Hodgkins Lymphoma which was successfully treated with 6 months of chemo .. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you I am in the middle of moving to VA from CT - Lots of distractions packing up a house Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)

      2. Hi . It is good that your doctor ordered a scan to investigate this pain. There are quite a few potential causes of pain in this area from irritable bowel issues, to the appendix, to the items you mentioned ... For this reason it is important to not speculate too much before the scan (I know, easier said than done). Are you having the scan done soon? Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)
