PSA climbing

My PSA is climbing. I am 54 and my psa is as follows

1/11/21 - 1.6
6/4/22 - 2.3
1/9/23 - 3.7
5/11/23 - 2.99
9/6/23 - 3.01
2/21/24 - 4.24

I had a cystoscopy done a few months ago following up a bladder issue from the past and in the doctors notes it said " 1+ moderate prostatic hyperplasia, without bladder neck contracture." which I have read means enlarged prostate. I am experiencing urge to go when nothing there and pain in pelvic area. I have read that the enlarged prostate can elevate psa levels. I am a self admitted hypochondriac so needless to say my anxiety is up. Dr said wait one month and check again as it could be a transient reading whatever that means. Just curious if any of you guys have had any similar experiences. Next test on 25th of this month. The symptoms I was having were what prompted the last reading a couple of weeks ago but they are a little better now but still there. Can anyone relate?

  1. Hi I can understand why you would be concerned. While I hope our community members respond with their personal experiences with this, I wanted to send over this forum discussion: https://prostatecancer.net/forums/high-non-cancerous-psa. I am also sending over this article from one of our advocates that talks about an enlarged prostate: https://prostatecancer.net/living/alpha-reductase-inhibitors. I hope this is helpful for you. 1. My PSA numbers were similar to yours and crossed over 4 in November. After that I met with my urologist who scheduled an MRI of the prostate. That came back with some findings so we scheduled a prostate biopsy. The results were positive for prostate cancer but it appears it is limited to just the prostate and was graded early stage. Seems like your next steps should be an MRI.
