Psma pet

15 years after Radical Prostatectomy my PSA has risen to .6 and my doctor is recommending radiation to my pelvic area. My fear is after 15
Years it may have migrated out of the pelvic area. In that case radiating the pelvic area would be useless and could cause secondary issues. I have read a lot of articles on psma pet/ct (prostate specific membrane antigen)which after being injected into your body and scanned via pet/ct scan is supposed to highlight any cancer cells throughout the body. Has anyone had or heard of this procedure.
I was told my insurance probably won’t cover it because it’s so new and it will cost me 8,000 out of pocket. UGG
But if it’s that good at finding any and all cancer spots it may be worth it in the long run. Anyone’s input would be appreciated

  1. I had PSMA done un my initial PC assessment and I strongly believe it was used extremely well to manage my treatment. I only paid $3k, but it was approved by the FDA and I believe it's now covered by Medicare. I would highly recommend it, and if I had to pay out of pocket, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

    1. Thanks for the info
I think your right,I’m going to get it even if I have to pay for it out of pocket

      1. I know several men who have experienced a rising PSA following treatment while traditional scans are not showing evidence of cancer. Personally I would get the PSMA scan if I have a mysterious rising PSA. Hopefully when found the hidden cancer is contained and can be spot treated with radiation . And yes I will pay out of pocket to save my life for a few more years 😀

        1. Thanks for the response

          1. Hey Robert, 13 year survivor, my PSA is rising again now .262. Just saw my doctor and req
uested PSMA procedure. This far along, its probably going to show it out-but I have always been curious where its hiding. They did not have this test when I was first diagnosed-might have save me some grief. DanF, moderator. ProstateCancer.net. Stay in touch please.
