Erleada

Diagnosed within last 30 days. Gleason=3+4. Radiation recommended. My doc has prescribed Erleada and thus far the insurance co. has not approved the request. Erleada suppresses or reduces testosterone that the cancer receives. Or at least as I understand it...

  1. Hi . Did the doctor explain why they wanted to prescribe Erleada? I ask because it usually used for what are known as Non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) and Metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) (see here: https://prostatecancer.net/news/fda-approves-non-metastatic-crpc and here: https://prostatecancer.net/clinical/non-metastatic-castration-resistant for more information). It is not usually prescribed for newly diagnosed, non-metastatic cases. Usually standard androgen deprivation therapy is prescribed in these cases. Your doctor may certainly have their reasons, but this may very well be why the insurance company is balking at the treatment. Don't hesitate to ask about the choice and please feel free to keep us posted and to ask additional questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. Thanks for the reply Richard,
After four days of repeated denials by the insurance co. I did receive notification this morning that they have approved the Rx. Apparently the doctor provided the justification for the medicine they require. The co-pay is very high so we will be dealing with that. I agree with the criteria you cited.
    Thanks again, be well,
    Jeff
