Newly diagnosed

Aloha I am newly diagnosed with prostate cancer and having my first visit/discussion with my Urologist since they posted my biopsy reports monday. I am planning on forwarding all my labs to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center as soon as I can get them to answer my PH/emails. My story starts with frequent urination issues so went to urologist they recommended Urolift and had precautionary MRI prior to procedure which showed two dark areas one on each lobe. had 12needle biopsy samples taken... results were 3+4=7 for all...15-20% gleason grade 4 Grade group two...one lobe is almost 100% compromised the other over 50% perineural invasion was present. It is early yet and I am doing the research to familiarize myself with this disease and what to expect as to what is coming down the line and how WE ( wife and I) might deal with it. Right now looking to see how others have navigated this and maybe get some suggestions on how /where to procede. Mahalo Kevin

  1. The Grade group 2 was noted after my gleason score in all 12 samples so Thing that is the stage? if so it is probably T2c

    1. thanks for reaching out. While I do hope our community members respond to you here with their personal experiences, I am sending over two articles from our advocates with their stories (which is very similar to yours): https://prostatecancer.net/community-advocates/bob-tierno and https://prostatecancer.net/community-advocates/simon-lord. I hope this is helpful. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Jill, prostatecancer.net team

  2. Here is a good website to compare odds of cure for the major treatment paths. You have to determine your stage, low risk, intermediate, or high risk (risk of recurrence). So if you are intermediate, pull up the intermediate chart and you can see the odds of 10-20 yr survival, etc. based on the treatment you pick.

    https://www.prostatecancerfree.org/compare-prostate-cancer-treatments/

It is best viewed on computer or just print it on paper. Not so viewable on phone.

To make the graphs easier to read, i drew a dot on the endpoints of the elipses, and then drew a line through the dots. This turns the elipses into lines.

Also be aware the the graphs don’t show any salvage radiation benefit. This would boost the surgery odds up a bit.

Also beware, this is a very dysfunctional industry from my view. Loads of bad info mixed in with the good info. Same with the docs. Some of them are more dangerous than the cancer.

Good luck. Study your Butt off.

    1. Aloha Groundhogy....thanks for the reply. Been doing my due diligence on prostate cancer since getting my biopsy results and have had only one teleconference Dr. visit since. My bro is a general practitioner so have had his advice also. Since I am here in Hawaii choices are somewhat limited but have kids in Seattle area so am planning on hooking up with Fred Hutch Cancer Cener going forward and have another teleconference with surgical urologist there coming up also have a teleconference w/another surg. urologist in Honolulu tomorrow. Have to agree w/ you so far as to this industry as there are so many options for treatment vs. standards for treatment and advice going forward. My kneejerk reaction was to have the prostatectomy and be done with it but finding it may not be that simple. Have not talked with a radiologist yet but am realizing that not exploring that option would be foolish on my part and also know a friend who had the proton therapy with good results. Been diagnosed for about a month now and am looking to resolve the treatment choices by the new year ...but trying not to rush the process. Since I'm 70 and in pretty good health I am not too worried about the disease and the outcome of treatment but still will be a relief to determine my path going forward . Thanks again for the support...Aloha Kevin
