Pros and Cons of IRE treatment vs Radiation and Radical Prostatectomy

Hi,
I am doing research to choose the right treatment of Prostate Cancer(localized) with minimum side effects. Can any body share your experience with IRE treatment?

  1. I understand that the IRE can be effective depending on the stage and spread, etc, of the Prostate Cancer (PCa). I would ask my MD to share his experience with the potential for a reoccurrence with a targeted treatment.

With any of this, there are no easy answers or guaranteed outcomes. We are all different, and this disease can impact us in different ways. Dennis, Patient Leader

    1. Hi . I can't personally speak to IRE (irreversible electroporation) therapy, but I know that the Nanoknife system utilizing the therapy was approved by the FDA in December 2024 and this article discusses the approval and the research leading to it: https://www.urologytimes.com/view/fda-grants-clearance-to-nanoknife-system-for-prostate-tissue-ablation. I also want to share this multi-center international study which found that "For men with localized prostate cancer, IRE could achieve good urinary and sexual function outcomes and a reasonable oncological result:" https://www.nature.com/articles/s41391-023-00783-y. It is important to note that this study states that "The long-term oncological results need further investigation and follow-up." It is clear that, as Dennis mentioned, it is important to speak with specialists in this treatment to determine if you are good candidate and viability of additional treatment should it be necessary. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on your decision and how you are doing. Richard (Team Member)
