Urination Four Months After Radiation

My husband fared fairly well right after the end of radiation regarding urination but now whenever he sits for even a bit, when he stands he immediately has to go to the bathroom because there is urgency. Should this symptom be delayed this way or are we dealing with an entirely new issue? Will have the first post-op visit next week.

  1. Hi . First, let me say that I'm sure it is a great comfort to your husband to have your support and advocacy on his behalf. Second, many people are unaware and too many doctors so not discuss that some side effects from prostate cancer radiation can happen months or even years after the fact. This article discusses this in more detail: https://www.oncolink.org/cancers/prostate/support-and-survivorship/survivorship-late-effects-after-radiation-for-prostate-cancer.
Has anyone ever mentioned pelvic floor therapy? I ask because this can help with urinary incontinence. Our contributor Rebecca, who is a therapist, wrote about speaking to a doctor about it and also about what she does: https://prostatecancer.net/living/ask-physical-therapy. Hoping your husband can get some help with this issue. Please feel free to keep us posted and to ask further questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)
