nervous about prostatectomy

Hi everyone I am due to have a prostatectomy on the 1st of February. In fact a week from
tomorrow. I am so nervous and to be honest quite scared so scared in fact I have contemplated not going through with it. I would appreciate it and like to hear other men's experiences of how they felt before and after their surgery.

I think everyone is nervous and anxious before surgery. I assume that you have weighed your options among doctors based on PSA, Gleason score, scans etc. and like me decided on the surgery option. I had mine about 3 weeks ago. The robot assisted surgery and one night in hospital went fine. I was sore for a few days… better each day. The week after with the catheter was annoying. I am doing great now and have been walking 1.5 miles each day. Life after surgery is filled with mixed results in the area of incontinence… I’ve been very lucky and had very little problem with leakage. I’m not using any pads or shields even after the first week. The ED thing is another story. But my wife and I decided that having me alive was more important than sex. We’ll work on that area the best we can with what’s available and see what happens. Try to stay positive in that you’re getting rid of cancer.

garyfore. Hang in there. It is scary for sure. I had my surgery back in 2008. It went well-but my PSA was very high and I had to go the chemo route too. Will say its a was game changer on my life. Took me a while to get used to post surgery life (nerve sparing not so much for me) But today Im strong still here and living life. Think I would not have been here still without the surgery. Hey man . Hang in there. I don't know what it will be like for you . Im just starting this journey myself. Im getting lots of support from friends and family and they make large difference . Im looking at a high psa score of 122 and expecting a life changing experience and im scared also. Too many unknowns but going through tests and scans now to figure out the best course of action to keep me alive and healthy. Will know more in March Good luck to you Edward
