Blood in urine

I had my prostate removed in 2019 and had a recurrence in 2022. I went through 35 sessions of radiation. Currently since then my PSA readings have been undetectable, <0.01. Recent I had blood occur in my urine. Urinalysis and urine culture was undetectable for UTI. I have scheduled a cystoscopy. Has anyone experienced this in their journey?

  1. Yes. Over one year from Radiation, brachytherapy and hormone dep drugs there is a small amount of blood in urine. Did a cystoscopy and then a CT scan. Nothing was found so just a bit of a shrug.

    1. I have prostate cancer and considering brachytherapy. Are you sedated or kept awake during the procedure?

    2. Hi . I can't personally speak on the brachytherapy procedure, but I did find this guide describing the procedure: https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/007385.htm. You may also want to look at this link: https://www.oncolink.org/cancer-treatment/radiation/types-of-radiation-therapy/brachytherapy-for-prostate-cancer. Hope this information is helpful and that others chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. Okay, thanks for the reply. Their was a tiny sac spotted on my bladder wall. I have a cystoscopy scheduled. Praying for the best.

  3. Hi . I know there are some guys here who have experienced radiation cystitis, which can have blood in the urine as a symptom. This article from our editorial team on urinary symptoms discusses it further: https://prostatecancer.net/symptoms/urinary. I also want to note that delayed or late radiation cystitis can occur years after treatment ends (see here for example: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/radiation-cystitis. Hope this information is helpful and others chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (Team Member)
