Prostate MRI Less Than One Year Ago

A prostate MRI one year ago found nothing suspicious but seven months later a lump was found which, after biopsy, is now determined a Primary GS of 4+3=7 and a Seconday GS of 3+4=7. I understand that prostate MRIs often are not so sensitive which begs the question, "why bother?". However, my question now is, does the short timespan perhaps indicate a greater aggressiveness if it appeared that quickly? A PSMA PET is being done this week so my other question is : how many people have experienced incidental findings which might not be prostate metastases but other tumors, cysts, etc? and what determined that those were not associated?

  1. Hi . This is an excellent question. As noted in this article, the PSMA PET targets a specific protein located in the prostate cancer cells, so it will not pick up other kinds of cancer or tumors: https://prostatecancer.net/clinical/psma-imaging-scan. It is also noted that even aggressive prostate cancer is slower than other cancers. Also, the Gleason score is a primary indicator of aggressiveness of PCa, so a Gleason score of 7 indicates a lower level of aggressiveness. You should definitely get some more answers from the PSMA and please feel free to keep us posted on how things are going. Best, Richard (Team Member)
