My Biopsy Story, Plus Participating in a Study

Everything happened very fast for me. In Nov 2024 I found blood in my semen.

Confirmation of prostate cancer

I went to a urologist and he prescribed an antibiotic which seemed to clear the blood in semen issue. I had had bloodwork about 4 months prior with a PSA of 3.5. The urologist ordered another PSA test, and that came back at 5.0. He ordered an ultrasound which showed nothing. He then said let's do an ultrasound just to make sure everything is OK and the ultrasound showed cancer. That was in Dec 2025.

After the MRI he ordered a PSMA PET Scan and biopsy. The MRI and PET Scan showed the cancer is contained in my prostate. The biopsy came back with a Gleason 9 score. I should also include that I have the BRCA2 genetic defect, which puts me at greater risk for a high grade cancer.

Enrolled in a study

I am currently enrolled in the NePtune trial at UPenn which includes 6 months of ADT along with Olaparib. The theory behind the trial is the drugs will kill the cancer before surgery (will be confirmed with another MRI and PET scan when trial is complete) and push the chance of recurrence way down the road. My RP surgery is scheduled for the end of July 2025.
