Surgeon with ego bigger than skill base
I was diagnosed with PC in November 2024, having been to the GP 4 times. Each time, including the last one, being told it was an age test. In the end I demanded the blood test: PSA 11.4. Gleason score 3+4. I was told I was ideal for surgery or RT. Chose surgery, get rid of it now! Choosing surgery was not wrong; it was the surgeon I was allocated.
Decided it was necessary to discuss perineural invadion. If he had discussed, would not have chosen nerve sparing. Did not explain positive margins, again would have pushed for early intervention.
Raising concerns
At 8 months PSA on the rise. Raised concerns about not being fully informed, at this point surgeon met me and my wife, bombshell. Surgeon did not fully read biopsy results from removed prostate, missed a ltmph nofd with a 3mm adenocarcinoma. Denies any relationship to early PSA failure.
I do not believe him, how could I? He has decided I am not worthy of being fully informed or reading biopsy results.
Can't name him or where he is from, shame. Final straw: the oncology team he made a referral to as having members who are useless. No wonder I am angry, even suicidal at times. Didn't write this to scare anyone but to make sure you are fully aware before making the biggest decision of your life.
