just found out...

I am 73..wm, just found out I have prostate cancer ..biopsy showed 8 sections clear , 2 sections with Gleason 7 and 2 slightly smaller with Gleason 8 ( 4+4) MRI hinted liklihood which scared, biopsy results stopped me in my tracks..PET scan next week..having a bit of low back stiffness ( not pain) but terrified of metastic spread altho doc said she didn think so...

started in late April '25 when I decided to ask my doc about testostrone patches..she said we needed to check PSA and testostrone levels - digital exam seemed ok- PSA came back 43..she said dont worry, smetimes they spike, next PSA was 53..3.5 weeks later..then another at 61 a week later...

this is the worst time for me..wife passed 6 yrs ago..so alone..I would have never guessed altho I was peeing 2-4 times a night..but no blood ever.. ( now a bit of blood in semen after biopsy)

go see new doc on JUly 11..they do oncology in house..he has not seen biopsy yet..but said MRI looked concering...but said generally they do hormone therapy and "zap it with focused radiation " like no big deal..

I am sometimes nauseas with fear.

  1. Hi . The anxiety you are feeling is certainly understandable and many men here get it (and have been there). It is good that you are going to see a specialist and a lot of men find it helpful in seeing a couple to get different opinions on treatment options. Our editorial team wrote here about second opinions: https://prostatecancer.net/living/second-opinion. You mentioned the PET scan. Am I correct that this is the PSMA test? The PSMA is the gold standard in finding any prostate cancer spread and, if there is some, can also help direct treatment. This article goes into further detail: https://prostatecancer.net/treatment/psma-targeted-pet-imaging. As you find out more information please feel free to ask questions on treatment specifics. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)
