my psa was 4.6. when i had my referral...the focused psa came back @ 20% probability of prostrate ca...i had the biobsy in the urologist's office w/ local anesthesia...gleason score was 3+4 +7...he gave me a textbook, told me to read it and make my treatment decision, i am an Oral Surgeon...i perform biopsies in my office....ca always takes something in return, in exchange for seeking a cure...i chose radical prostratectomy, robotic, performed by my urologist in Saginaw, mi....all my pre-treatment scans were negative for metastatic ca....i had the surgery and my nodes were clean, but was told a small amount of gleason score 6 ca was left behind @ the anastomosis of my bladder and ureter....recovery was brutal...i had lymphatic fluids drain from one of my drain sites for a month and the catheter in place for 6 wks....i was on leviquim for 4 wks...then my drainage ended...pain was intense for 10 days post op and then eased....i ran a psa of .05 for 2 yrs post surgery....my psa has dropped to .01 now, 4 yrs out...i have mild stress incontinence, when lifting heavy objects....happily i am dry @ night and most of the day....sexual function has returned to an 85% level, a good thing...some paresthesia (numbness) remains in the pelvic region....i have eaten 1.5 tablespoons of freshly ground dark flaxseed every morning for about 2 yrs now, after reading german studies, where post rad. prostatectomy men w/ slowly rising psa's (about .10) did this and it lowered their psa' to near non-detectable....ground dark flaxseed induces prostrate ca apoptosis (ca cell death) per their studies...i hope my immune system has killed the residual ca left @ the anastomosis w/ the aid of the flax seed-ligans ca cell apoptosis....time will tell...till then i have retired from clinical practice and enjoy my family...i wish everyone well
