Second opinion on biopsy

I started out with a Gleason 7 3+4. Hospital of excellence reevaluated my biopsy and came up with a Gleason 7 4+3. I decided on doing 28 rounds of IMRT and the space oar. Oncologist wants me to do a short course (2months) of ADT before radiation starts. He said 1 short in beginning and 1 shot at end. Can anyone give me a little insight on ADT side effects. Thx

  1. Hi . Your questions about the potential side effects of ADT are certainly understandable. It is a popular topic and a lot has been written about it on the site. Our contributor Dennis wrote about it here: https://prostatecancer.net/living/discussing-adt-treatment. Guy wrote here: https://prostatecancer.net/living/adt-libido-and-puberty and Tony here: https://prostatecancer.net/living/adt-changes. I think that you get the point that there are a lot of opinions and experiences (using the search engine at top left for hormone therapy will yield pages and pages of results).
One thing I want to note is that everyone's experience can be different. We have had some men who have said their six month shots lasted a year and a half and others, like my father-in-law, who went through it with very few issues.
I also want to note that not all forms of ADT are the same, such as Orgovyx (relugolix) being known to have a different profile than Lupron (see: https://www.cancer.gov/news-events/cancer-currents-blog/2021/fda-relugolix-prostate-cancer-androgen-deprivation-therapy). It can be important to ask your doctor which kind they want to use and why. I hope this information is helpful and please feel free to keep us posted and to ask additional questions.
