Is there a correlation between the size of a lesion and Prostate cancer?

On January 25 of this year I had my yearly physical and the discussion of my annual blood work. Since my PSA had gone from 3.52 to 3.58 to 4.08, plus the fact that my father passed away due to PCa, it was decided to go for an MRI to see if we were dealing with anything serious. The MRI showed a PI RADs 4 lesion that was 1.2 cm. wide. Since my Prostate was measured at like 4.5 x 3.2 cms. wide it would make my lesion around 1/4 the size of my Prostate. I am now scheduled for a biopsy in a couple of weeks. My question is...does the size of one's lesion/lesions correlate at all as to whether it could be cancerous or benign?

  1. Hi . This is an excellent question. Yes, the size of the lesion does matter and, as discussed in this article, it is one of the determining factors in determining the PI RADS score: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11871869/. So, while the concern for both your score and the size of the lesion are understandable. The size is already being accounted for. Please feel free to keep us posted on the biopsy. 1. Thank you, Richard. I thank God for this forum. It has answered so many of my questions already. So, I am new here and I am at that point where I am anxious but still don't know at this point whether my problem is malignant or benign. But, I guess I will know that in about 3 weeks. I will certainly keep you and others informed of my journey. Thanks, again, for all you do.
