Difficulties going "#2" 1 year post prostatectomy: Has anyone else out there had this problem?

I had a radical robotic (nerve-sparing) prostatectomy about a year ago, and I've had some difficulty with bowel movements since then. Is there anyone out there who can tell me whether this is a thing, or has anyone else out there had similar issues?
Hi thanks for reaching out. I did find this article from one of our members who experienced this and he gave some tips: https://prostatecancer.net/stories/constipation-horror. I hope this is helpful. Please also keep the doctor informed, if you haven't already, about these ongoing issues. They should be able to help you as well. I really hope you can get some relief. Jill, prostatecancer.net team

Thank you very much; I have an annual checkup coming up soon, and I intend to mention this issue.

I found that my system changed dramatically after surgery making it necessary to pay attention to what I was eating and drinking. I needed considerably more water (liquid) daily and also needed to consume more fiber ( fruits and vegetables) + a fiber supplement. It took time for my system to adjust. I am better now but continue to pay close attention to all of the above. Dennis(Prostate Cancer.net TEAM)

Thanks for the reply and the tip. The issues I'm experiencing have to do with pushing a bit harder than I was accustomed to pre-surgery, and I'm wondering whether there was some unintentional nerve damage associated with the prostatectomy. I have noticed a bit of relief from taking in some additional fiber; I'll continue with that, adding more water. Hopefully, these things will help. Again, thanks.

I had somewhat the same issue with some straining post radiation treatment. I use sugar free Metamucil, a couple of times a day along with increasing my water intake resolves the issue. I shoot for 128oz (1 gallon) of water a day along with the Metamucil. I still take it to keep moving things along.
