Genetic Counselling

My situation. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 (now stage IV-but stable for many years), bladder cancer 2015 (stage zero).. No family history of cancer that I am aware of. My oldest daughter just fought off breast cancer, stage II, wife had breast cancer stage 1-both last year.

Wife read that I should have counselling to see if Im a carrier as daughter was young and then theres me. They have both tested and are not carriers. Get results back tomorrow.

What do you think? Am I the cesspool of bad genes? The counselor doesn;t think so. I'm guessing the fact we all smoked at a time, lived by steel mills, worked in not so pleasant factories for me and those damned cheeseburgers.

  1. - I think it is so easy to look back on our lives and ask if we were the spark that ignited the prostate cancer flame. I had a Gleason 9 and no one in my immediate family had PCa - so who knows . My fathers family were coal miners in PA My father smoked . I used round up on weeds and yes i had my share of adult beverages early on in life. Was it any of that - Who knows. I was also tested to see if i was the carrier of bad genes and found out I was not. So far no one knows what causes prostate cancer I like to think it was not self induced and thats my story 😀 Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)

    1. Results back. No issues. So good thing I guess? See oncologist Thursday. PSA Jumped from .252 to .452. So still good though.
