New Member Intro

Hi - new member, so I thought I should give a little intro.

First referred to local urologist in 2021, due to PSA over 4. MRI and biopsy followed, both came back ok, but over the following months, PSA kept rising, little by little.

Another MRI and biopsy, also good, an Exo urine test that wasn’t so good, so referred to cancer center (The James, Columbus, Ohio) for second opinion.

More testing there, still looked ok, but PSA kept going up, finally over 9 by 2025. Oncologist performed another, more comprehensive biopsy (along with an MRI), and cancer was finally detected.

Diagnosed with Stage 3 PCa in October 2025. Two low-risk lesions, one intermediate-high risk lesion, cancer just beginning to escape.

Prostatectomy in early January 2026. Side effects after surgery are the usual incontinence and ED. I’m going through pelvic floor PT to help with the incontinence, and seeing some improvement, though it’s still fairly well present. ED I’m not even worrying about until the bladder control is worked out.

Just had my first post-op PSA screening a couple of days ago - undetectable, so that was very good news.

  1. Forgot to add that I’m 59 (60 in a few months) and married.

  2. Hi . Welcome to the site, although we wish there was no need. It is great to hear that the the initial post-surgery PSA was undetectable. Your story is a great example of the sometimes need to be persistent until you get answers. It is also great to hear that you started pelvic floor therapy right away. We had a couple of of therapists as contributors here and one, Erin, wrote this article on the benefits of early therapy: https://prostatecancer.net/living/start-kegels. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how you doing. Richard (Team Member)
