Pink Colored Semen

Hi All
I’ll provide some background. I’m a 53 year old with a family history of prostate cancer. A couple of years ago my brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer at 57 and subsequently had a prostatectomy and is doing well. Since his diagnosis I have been monitoring my PSA and they always came back within normal ranges. I was still not satisfied and wanted reassurance and underwent an MRI which resulted in finding a small 6mm lesion with a PiRads score of 4. The next step was a transperineal prostate biopsy where the urologist took 30 samples thus was in April 2025. The results were at ALL samples were clear and the next steps will be just monitoring PSA and possible symptoms. All went well with the procedure and the initial blood when urinating became less and less with the following weeks. To minimise the length of time to heal I stopped my aspirin for 4 weeks after the procedure. I didn’t ejaculate for approximately 6 weeks because I was fearful and when I eventually did it was rust colored and subsequent ejaculations became clearer with only brown specks which became less with time. Eventually by mid June the semen was clear like it was pre procedure. That is until a couple of days ago when all of a sudden when I ejaculated I noticed that it was pink in color and immediately knew that was blood. There is no blood when urinating, only in my semen. I just want to know whether others have experienced a reoccurrence of blood in the semen after it had all cleared and was clear for several weeks? Is this normal and should I be worried as I can’t seem to find any information about recurring blood in semen. I am on aspirin and that might be a factor.

  1. Hi . It is certainly understandable that seeing a recurrence of blood in your semen would create some anxiety. I can't personally speak to this issue, but have seen studies note that this can occur (see here for example: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3643320/). That said, we are not medical professionals and you may want to check with your doctor, if nothing else it may help put you at ease. Hopefully others will chime in if they have any experience with this. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. Thank you for your reply and the link. I will certainly follow up with the doctor I’ll give it a couple of weeks before I ejaculate again and compare the color rusty or bright red/pink. It’s the reoccurrence that scares me. I’ll stop the aspirin for a while too, like I did after the procedure which the urologist advised to stop and let things heal before I start again. Hopefully this was just a short term issue.
