Prolaris tests

Any thoughts on Prolaris? My PSA score when I had my annual physical this March was 15.37 - I ignored the previous years test results - saw a Urologist in April had more blood work done, he suggested an MRI - they found 3 lesions all contained in my prostate - had a biopsy last Thursday - 9 samples taken and am awaiting the results. Before going in for the biopsy I had found information on Prolaris testing and spoke to them, they reached out to my Urologist and when I saw him for the biopsy the first thing he said to me was "Why did you contact Prolaris"? I was taken back and said I wanted to get as much information as possible on what we may be dealing with and what the best course of action is for treatment. My Urologist has pushed for hormone therapy since my first visit - which concerns me - particularly after getting more information and finding it called "chemical castration". It seems with all of the treatment options know the make up of the "lesions" and what would be the best defense against them, to me as a layman, makes sense. Can those that have had the Prolaris testing done please let me know what your thoughts are on this?

  1. I think you need a second opinion and a new urologist. I don't know if I could trust a doctor that wants to start you on ADT treatment before you even get the results of the biopsy. Maybe you don't need ADT. Maybe you just need radiation. Maybe just surgery. Maybe nothing at all besides active surveillance.

    Keep us informed....

    1. Thanks Alan - that is exactly how I feel.

      1. The doctor sounds like he wants to start cancer treatment before he finds out if you even have cancer. Or start cancer treatment even if you don't need it.

        Absurd...

        1. Big Red 57,

I agree with the replies above.

I had several 2nd opinions in addition to some internet self-study. My surgeon oncologist is supportive of my learning and is not defensive when I make inquiries or ask questions
