PROSTRATE REMOVED PSA GROWING

PROSTRATE REMOVED 13 YEARS AGO. PSA READINGS STARTING TO INCREASE. LATEST .32 PSA. WILL BE GOING FOR BONE SCAN AND PET SCAN. I'M CONCERN ON RADIATION TREATMENTS. HISTORY I HAD A LARGE KIDNEY STONE 15 YEARS AGO AND HAD A BONE SCAN THAT HAS LOW LEVEL RADIATION IN THE FLUID INJECTION. THE NEXT YEAR MY PROSTRATE EXAM SHOWED A PROBLEM. HAD MY PROSTRATE REMOVED WITH SOME LYMP NODES REMOVED. STILL FULLY FUNCTIONAL. NO DETECTABLE PSA FOR 13 YEARS. HAD A BONE SCAN FOR NON RELATED ISSUE 2 YEARS AGO. AFTER THAT MY PSA BECAME DETECTABLE. NOW THEY WANT ANOTHER BONE SCAN AND A PET SCAN. MY CONCERN IS IT POSSIBLE THE LOW LEVEL RADIATION SCANS CREATING A CANCER PROBLEM. LOOKING FORWARD IT SEEMS THE COMMON SOLUTION WOULD BE RADIATION TREATMENT. MY GUT IS TELLING ME IT JUST DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT. IS THERE ANY OTHER SOLUTION. VERY CONCERN RADIATION WILL ALSO AFFECT MY CURRENT FULLY FUNCTIONAL SYSTEM. HOW MUCH SHOULD I EXPECT LIFE EXPECTANCY TREATMENT VS NO TREATMENT. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR INPUT. HAVE A GREAT DAY. REGARDS

  1. There is a very new (and revolutionary, high-sensitivity) diagnostic tool called PSMA PET scan that has the ability to image. locate, and pinpoint prostate cancer at the molecular level. You mention above that a bone scan and PET scan may be in your future. Hopefully that PET scan is actually a PSMA PET scan, if so I think it would answer many questions for you?

      1. Hi . Just to follow up on the information from , this article from our editorial team provides additional information on the PSMA PET: https://prostatecancer.net/treatment/psma-targeted-pet-imaging. In addition, it notes that there is now a radioligand that can used in conjunction with the PSMA to specifically target the cancer. Your doctor should be able to provide additional information. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing and to ask questions. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    2. Thank you for your feedback. Update psa .42 had both the test you described and also bone and soft tissue total body scan. Nothing found other than all my body joints have deteriorated because of my age. Docter wants to see me in 3 months and has indicated a possible radiation treatment where the prostrate was before removal. Concern about radiation side effects and what type can be used. Appreciate input. Regards

      1. Does anyone have statistics on prostrate removed 14 years ago, psa still above .4 on radiation treatment where the prostrate was removed since no cancer detected in various tests on being successful. Thank you in advance for your input.
