Psa rise

Hi my mame is Jovan 77gDiagnosis: Gleason score 3+4 (ISUP Grade Group 2), clinical stage T2b
Pre-radiotherapy PSA: ~8.8 ng/mL
1 hormonal injection (androgen deprivation therapy) before radiotherapy finish 24.4. 2023
📈 PSA course after radiotherapy:
2 years after radiotherapy: PSA = 0.2 ng/mL
3 years after radiotherapy: PSA = 0.38 ng/mL
PSA doubling time (PSADT): ~10–12 months
What next?

  1. Hi . It is certainly understandable that the rise in PSA would be concerning. Has your doctor had any recommendations? I want to share with you this article on PSA levels following treatment: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/types/prostate-cancer/treating/psa-levels-after-treatment.html. It notes that, while doubling time is certainly a concern, there is also something known as the PSA bounce. This is where following radiation therapy the PSA has a bounce at some point in the first couple of years, but then comes back down. We are not medical professionals and can't say if this is what is happening in your case, but it is something it may be useful to ask your doctor about.
I also want to share with you this guide to recurrence page from our editorial team which has links to some of the top articles on aspects of dealing with a potential recurrence: https://prostatecancer.net/living/recurrence-guide.
I hope this information is helpful and please feel free to keep us posted on how things are going and to ask additional questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)
