Treatment

Hi
I am 73 years old and in reasonably good health.
I have Prostate cancer. My first biopsy revealed a Gleason score of 3+3 with a T stage of 2a. I had a PSA of 6.5. In my meeting with the consultant, I was offered A/S ( active surveillance ). I asked for a referral to another hospital where I had a second biopsy which showed a Gleason 3+4-7. They offered me Chryoablation/Chryotherapy. With the new Gleason, I went back to my local hospital to see if they would offer a treatment but they still recommended A/S.
Has anyone in the group had Chryotherapy? If so, do you have any advice

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to this issue, but our contributor Jim wrote about it here: https://prostatecancer.net/living/friend-cryotherapy-experience. I also suggest reading the comments section at the end of the article for additional feedback and information. Hope this information is helpful and that others chime in with their experience. 1. Thank you, Richard

      1. Hi
Richard, did he know how old his friend was, and was his Gleason, etc after they caught the cancer or when they advised A/S?

        1. Hi . I don't know any more specifics about what Jim wrote than what was contained in the article. He did link to previous article on the topic which you can find here: https://prostatecancer.net/living/friend-diagnosis. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      2. Start reading. My understanding on chryotherapy is permanent ED near 100% of the time. Please read extensively and seek second opinions from major cancer centers before locking in on a path forward. You have time. ED is possible with all treatments but not at 100% expectations.

        1. Hi . I just want to share this meta-analysis of studies on cryotherapy and ED: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30649710/. It found "the incidence rate of ED after cryotherapy for prostate cancer was not high" and that "significantly, with the development of cryotherapy technology, the incidence of ED after cryotherapy for prostate cancer is decreasing." Of course, I don't know exactly what "not high" means and it is probably cold comfort to those who experience it, but want to share the information. Best, Richard (Team Member)
