What are the side effects of ADT and how long do they last after shot

My husband had RP 3 years ago, the PSA recently went up a little and he started radiation and a Lupron shot. The shot made his libido shot. How long after 3 month shot does it return?

  1. Hi thanks for reaching out. While I do hope our community members respond back with their personal experiences, I would definitely reach out to the doctor, if you haven't done so already, as we are all unique and have varying experiences. I hope you get the answers you deserve. Jill, prostatecancer.net team

    1. Hi . The impact/side effects of ADT can vary quite a bit by individual. We have some contributors who, unfortunately, had the effects last far beyond the expected time (see here for example: https://prostatecancer.net/living/hot-flashes-treatments). Other men rebound pretty quickly. Our contributor Guy wrote here about what he did to counter the impact of ADT on sexual function and notes that his testosterone started to return within three months of completing ADT: https://prostatecancer.net/living/adt-libido-and-puberty. Some men find an exercise regimen to be helpful, such as discussed by James in this video: https://prostatecancer.net/living/adt-exercise. I know this may feel like an incomplete answer, since there really is no one answer, but I hope the information is helpful. Wishing you the best and please feel free to ask additional questions - this community is here for both of you. Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

      1. I had a six month shot.
My testosterone hit low during the six month shot, while my PSA didnt bottom out til several months passed the six.

I very much enjoyed not having to look at those female lures.
I remember the day i caught myself enjoying a look at one of them. Vacation over.

I think that was about month 9 maybe.
But i bet each person will be different
