Erection

I am a 76 year old man who hasn't had an erection in over 2 years. Is this normal? I've had my prostate removed via robotic assistance surgery. That was a little over 2 years ago.

  1. : Things change, as I personally experienced following my surgery in 2013. The extent of "recovery" also depends on the extent of the procedure, the surgeon's skill, and the emotional impact of the same.

Hopefully, you have discussed this with your urologist. Many things can help, but one has to feel comfortable sharing personal information. Beyond pills, some options can include injections, pumps, and implants. Currently, due tothe passing of my wife three years ago, I am in a new relationship. Much to my surprise, I began to experience many of my formerly lost erections. While things are not the samelife has become more interesting.

All of this suggests to me that a lot of factors come into play when it comes to the bedroom. Often, opening up communication can offer some new options. Dennis (Patient Leader)

    1. Hi . Dennis may not want to tout his own material, but he previously wrote this article on managing erectile dysfunction: https://prostatecancer.net/living/managing-erectile-dysfunction. You may have already discussed much of this with your doctor, but I also want to share this article on medications: https://prostatecancer.net/treatment/ed-medications. I hope this information can inform conversations with your doctor. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)
