I have been fighting Prostate cancer since May 2024 65-year-old

In May 2024 first thing was I had a UTI, during this needed to be put on a catheter they removed it twice with in 2 weeks back to emergency reinstalled. This was done with a PA. We decided to see what was going on finally July 26 seen the urologist and the scoped it. They then sent me for an MRI Aug 28 seen an issue then end of Sept he did a biopsy, cancer 5+5 10 on the Gleason scale. Needed to do a PT scan the place couldn't see me till mid Nov. My doctor stated not good enough sent me to an oncologist that had the machine needed and he became my doctor for the radiation part and another doctor in in this office became my medical oncologist then also. I was considered stage 4A it was in the prostate and one lip node on the left side leg was told most aggressive cancer lucky they found it this quick. All this time still wearing a catheter. They first put me on pills for my hormonal treatment in Nov 2024 then a 3-month shot stating in Dec instead of pills will be getting this shot for 2 to 3 years. It was decided by all 3 doctors that we needed to fix the catheter problem, so Dec 6 I had a TURP done which delayed the radiation till May 2025 to fully heal from the TURP. 45 days radiation or 9 weeks 5 times a week ending in mid-July. The medical oncologist the put me on a daily pill Erleada to go with the shot then also. Side effects wear after the radiation was done had to go back wearing a pad for around 2 months now have good control of this issue and the hormonal treatment cause Hot Flashes, I get tiered easier, weight control and some pain in my knees and lower back. The medical oncologist hearing these issue sent me a specialist that got me the treatment for these items. I feel blessed with between the 4 doctors, physical theorist and nutritionist that I'm getting great care

  1. Hi . You certainly have been dealing with a lot with Gleason 10 prostate cancer. It is good to hear that yours was caught relatively early and that you are pleased with the care you are getting. We definitely have other men here who are stage 4, such as Tony, who was diagnosed in 2017 (you can find his bio and a link to his articles here: https://prostatecancer.net/community-advocates/tony-collier) and Dan, diagnosed in 2008 (see: https://prostatecancer.net/community-advocates/dan-franke). You are not alone. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing and to ask questions. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)
