ISOPSA

Hello everyone I'm new here. Name is Russell and my question is about ISO PSA. My total PSA is 9 but my ISO psa is 13 which is more than double the norm. Has anyone else had a high ISO PSA? I just had an MRI yesterday and waiting for the results. I don't want to tell myself that I have cancer but the urologist wanted an MRI before biopsy. I'm very concerned. Thanks.

  1. Hi . Welcome, although sorry there is a need for you to be here. It is good that you have sought out a place you can get information and support. I know a little about the ISOPSA test and previously wrote this article: https://prostatecancer.net/clinical/isopsa-test. The MRI is now largely the standard of care prior to a biopsy to try avoid unnecessary biopsies. Your concern is certainly understandable, but the MRI will give you next steps if necessary. I know that may not help alleviate your stress a great deal, but just pointing out that it seems you are doing all the right things and the steps being taken seem proper. If a biopsy is necessary keep in mind that prostate cancer is slow growing and catching things early is the best path to effective treatment. Hoping this information is of some help and please feel free to keep us posted and to ask further questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. Hi Richard,
Thanks for the info. I guess it's time to adopt the attitude, and hope for the best prepare for the worst. Thanks again! It's a very surreal journey that we're all on.

    1. Hi Russ (). You are very welcome and surreal journey seems like an apt description. From what many men have discussed, to keep from getting overwhelmed, it can be helpful to break things down into component parts - something like: identification of a problem, the steps of the diagnostic process, and then, if necessary, the level of the risk and grade and the research into best options. This is just one breakdown off the top of my head, but I think you can get the point. It can be too much to get ahead of yourself. Hope this is helpful and wishing you the best.
